Cabinet Knob Template Hack – One Room Challenge Week #7

Cabinet Knob Template Hack – One Room Challenge Week #7

Hello everyone! This is week 7 of the One Room Challenge. If you are finding me through the One Room Challenge, welcome to my blog where I share my passion for creating comforting homes by thrifting, sewing and a little diy-ing along the way! While I’m not averse to buying new. I love being able to stretch a budget AND get that “layered over time” look that comes from incorporating pieces that have had a previous life! You can follow my decorating journey on the HomeSpunStyle Instagram.

If you missed my posts from Week 1 thru 6 chronicling the renovation of our galley kitchen in our 1940s coastal cottage, you can find them here:

  • Week 1 – design plan
  • Week 2 – cabinet/countertop/flooring selections
  • Week 3 – vaulted ceiling and skylights
  • Week 4 – shiplap and tile flooring
  • Week 5 – cabinets and shelves install
  • Week 6 – tips for styling shelves

The remaining cabinet pieces arrived last week so we got to work installing all of the knobs and pulls. We chose solid brass hardware for a classic, English cottage vibe.

Today I’m sharing a little hack for getting all the knobs perfectly aligned on every cabinet without measuring each and every one. This little hack got the job of installing 20 knobs done in less than 30 minutes!

First, we measured how far in and up from the bottom of the cabinet door we wanted each knob. We decided on 3 inches up and 1.25 inches in from the edge.

Then, using some scrap wood, Mr. HomeSpunStyle made 2 templates (one for left doors and one for right doors) that fit over the lower corners of the door. He then transferred the measurements onto the templates.

After lining up the template on the door, we simply drilled through the template and the door to make the hole for the knob. Using this hack, the process was fast and easy and most importantly the knobs were perfectly aligned!

I was curious whether a similar template was already on the market so I did a quick search and found this one for only $10. It looks like it also works for drawers, too!

Be sure to follow Home Spun Style on Instagram for sneak peaks of our progress. And stop back here on my blog for weekly updates where I’ll be sharing more photos and details. And you can check out the progress of the other guest designers on the One Room Challenge Blog.

Thanks for following along!
