Fall Updates At The Beach House

Fall Updates At The Beach House

Today I am sharing a few quick fall updates I did in the beach house living room.   Seasonal decorating doesn’t have to mean removing every accessory and pillow and starting from scratch.  It really can be as simple as layering on some seasonal touches to achieve a cozy, warm feel for fall.

At the beach house we have stuck to a blue and white color scheme throughout.  It’s a small, single story home so it feels good to have continuity from room to room.  Here’s how the living room looked before the fall touches:

I started with this cute “gather” banner from Target that is made from wood rounds strung on a piece of faux leather.  The banner set the tone for a wood and leather theme for my fall decor.

To continue the wood theme on the mantle, I layered on some old wooden candle holders and added a couple of baby boos for interest and texture.  There’s no orange going on here … just a lot of neutrals which work best with the existing beachy accessories.

On the two chairs, I kept the blue plaid pillows and layered on some small brown leather pillows.  Incidentally, these  chairs are at least 20 years.  They got a whole new lease on life when I made slipcovers for them out of drop cloths for use in this house.

Back to the leather pillows – I made these by upcycling pieces of vintage leather for the fronts and sewed them up using  vintage Ralph Lauren-ish wool plaids for the backs.

Finally, on the small table between the chairs, I simply placed a vase of tree branches that I cut from behind the house.

Oh and the fireplace lights are just a short strand of white Christmas tree lights tucked in among the logs.

You can find more leather pillows and vintage wood candle holders in my  Etsy shop.

The garland is on clearance at Target right now for just $7. My local Target in Phillipsburg, NJ had 2 of them on Monday so run on over and get yours before they are all gone!

Have a great week!
