After reviewing my May calendar, I realize that Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away! May is always a crazy-end-of-school-wrap-up month for me so now’s my chance to start thinking about a thoughtful gift for mom. This month I get the opportunity to lead the craft at the Mother/Daughter retreat a Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center. My business partner, Debra, will be away at another conference with her two girls so I will be leading this workshop with my oldest daughter, Ingrid, who turned 13 this past March. I’m so excited to be able to spend a little one on one time with her!
Each mother and daughter staying at Tuscarora will get their picture taken together so the creative activity will be embellishing the frames for their pictures. I spent some time perusing pinterest (of course) for inspiration. There’s so many great ideas out there! Here’s the inspiration photo for my embellished frame:
Every time I go thrifting, I always check for old scrabble games. The wooden letters are great for crafting and decorating.
I also like to pick up inexpensive frames from Ikea whenever I’m there. They work great for my 6-year-old’s masterpieces.
I chose a photograph of my oldest daughter and me taken 12 years ago. It’s hard to believe this little one’s already almost as tall as me. The years really do go by too fast! The photo was way to small for the frame so I adhered the photo to black construction paper using those old photo corners that I already had in my craft supplies.
The wooden letters were simply hot glued to the frame. Couldn’t have been easier! The letters also peel off easily so if I ever want to go back to a plain frame I can do that without a problem.
Wishing you a wonderful upcoming Mother’s Day!
Elizabeth
