Plastic Egg Makeover – Part 2

Here’s another idea for upcycling a few of those plastic Easter eggs:

As much as I love the vibrant colors in these eggs, I don’t want to use them in my decorating.  If you’ve been following this blog, you can tell that Debra and I have enjoyed working with paper lately.  I decided to try to cover a few of these eggs with shredded book pages.  I like this craft because it’s simple and uses items that you probably already have lying around the house.  Here’s what you’ll need:

shredded book or music pages (I only use books that are already falling apart)

1 cup flour

1 1/2 cup water

Mix flour and water until smooth.  This is the same method that would be used for making a pinata.  Now, take one of the paper strips and completely submerge in the flour/water mixture.  While holding the wet strip in one hand, remove excess moisture by running your thumb and pointer finger of your other hand along the strip.  Place damp paper on plastic egg.  Repeat until egg is completely covered.  This is what you end up with:

  Once dry, the paper does fade but I like that look.

I placed the eggs on a “nest” of dried wisteria pods.

My neighbor has a beautiful wisteria vine which has started to make its way over into our yard.  I don’t mind because the flowers are gorgeous and smell heavenly.  The dried pods fall to the ground and my girls love to collect them.  We have amassed quite a collection and I’m happy to finally be able to display them.  To make them even better, they’re  wonderfully fuzzy on the outside.  We love to marvel at God’s creation!
