Here’s a few simple non-tech ways to remember Christmas:
If you have a real Christmas tree, cut off a little part of the stump and record the date on it. It’s easiest to do this right before putting it in water after purchasing the tree but it could be done now when you take it down. We’ve been doing this since 2008 and love taking them out every year. Mix them with a few vintage Christmas balls for an easy centerpiece.
Every year, like many of you, we take a family photo. After dinner one night we get the tripod out, pile in front of the tree or fireplace and my husband runs back and forth about 50 times before we get one that we feel is passable. The kids seem to get a kick out of this process and we’re able to get more natural smiles. I always keep one photo to put in a small red photo album that comes out only at Christmas time. It’s so much fun to see how the kids change from year to year.
This year, I added a Christmas journal. I’m not much into journalling but I want to record the events of our Christmas celebrations from year to year. For 2011, my 10-year-old daughter, Ingrid, volunteered for the task. Even my almost 4-year-old, Greta, drew a little picture. Hopefully, this will help us all remember the little details that make this time of year special.
Debra gave this beautiful book to me last year for Christmas. It’s upcycled from an old Reader’s Digest book which she took to a local print shop to have bound into a journal.
Hope you can use one or more of these ideas.
